Class 12 boards reward complete NCERT coverage, well-presented answers and practice with CBSE's own sample papers. Most students also prepare for an entrance exam, so plan both together: the same NCERT content serves JEE Main, NEET and CUET. Finish the syllabus by mid-December, complete practicals in January, and use the last six weeks for timed board papers.
October to December
- Finish all chapters in your five subjects by mid-December. Keep about 2 hours a day for board-style writing practice if you are also preparing for an entrance exam.
- Science: do every NCERT in-text and exercise question; for Chemistry, learn all named reactions and NCERT examples.
- Commerce: practise Accountancy questions daily (partnership and company accounts carry big marks).
- Humanities: make chapter timelines (History), map lists (Geography) and keyword notes (Political Science).
January
- Complete practical files, project reports and the investigatory project; prepare for the viva.
- Solve the official 2026-27 sample paper for each subject in 3 hours and grade it with the official marking scheme.
- Practise case-based and assertion-reason questions, which carry a large share of marks.
Last 30 days
- Solve one full paper a day, rotating subjects, plus the last 3 years' board papers.
- Use the gap days between papers for the next subject only; revise from your own notes.
- Write answers in points, underline key terms, draw labelled diagrams and show all steps in numerical answers.
- For JEE/NEET students, keep 1 to 2 hours of entrance practice daily so you do not lose speed before April and May exams.
Books and resources
- NCERT textbooks for all subjects — Board questions are based on NCERT content and terms.
- NCERT Exemplar (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology) — Harder questions on the same syllabus; also useful for entrance exams.
- CBSE sample question papers and marking schemes 2026-27 — Shows the paper layout and how examiners give step marks.
- CBSE previous years' board papers — Shows which topics repeat and the real difficulty.
Mistakes to avoid
- Ignoring board-style writing while preparing only for MCQ entrance exams.
- Taking practicals lightly; you must pass them separately.
- Skipping Class 12 English preparation, which counts in your best-five percentage.
- Leaving whole chapters out because they seem low-weight in entrance exams.
- Not practising full 3-hour papers before the exam.
