NEET UG is the single national entrance test for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH (BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS), BVSc & AH and some nursing seats across India, including AIIMS and JIPMER. NTA holds it once a year, usually on a Sunday in early May. Your NEET score and All India Rank are then used in MCC counselling (All India Quota and central institutes) and in each state's own counselling.

NEET UG FAQ
When is NEET UG 2027?
NTA has not announced it yet. Based on past years, expect registration in February-March 2027 and the exam in May 2027. Check neet.nta.nic.in for the official notice.
Will NEET 2027 be online (computer-based)?
On 19 May 2026 the Union Education Minister said NEET UG will be computer-based from 2027, and NTA has started looking for test centres. The exact format will be confirmed in the 2027 information bulletin.
What is the minimum age for NEET?
You must be 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year. There is no upper age limit.
How many times can I take NEET?
Recent bulletins do not set an attempt limit. You can appear every year as long as you meet the eligibility rules.
What were the NEET 2026 qualifying marks?
For the June 2026 re-exam, General/EWS candidates needed 213 or more out of 720 (50th percentile), and OBC, SC and ST candidates needed 177 or more (40th percentile).
Is there negative marking in NEET?
Yes. You get +4 for a correct answer, -1 for a wrong answer and 0 for a question left blank.
Why was NEET UG 2026 held again?
NTA cancelled the 3 May 2026 exam over alleged irregularities and held a re-exam for all candidates on 21 June 2026. Results came out on 16 July 2026.
Is NCERT enough for NEET?
NCERT is the base for all three subjects and is close to enough for Biology. For Physics and physical chemistry you also need a lot of question practice beyond NCERT.
What is the NEET application fee?
In 2026 it was Rs 1,700 for General, Rs 1,600 for General-EWS/OBC-NCL and Rs 1,000 for SC/ST/PwBD/third gender, plus charges. The 2027 fee will be in the new bulletin.
