Sample question from this paper
Profit, Loss & Discount · medium
A trader buys an article for ₹1,200 and marks it 40% above the cost price. He then offers a discount of 15% on the marked price. What is his profit percentage?
- A. 16%
- B. 17.5%
- C. 19%
- D. 21%
Show answer and solution
Answer: C
Marked price = 1200 × 1.40 = ₹1,680. Selling price after 15% discount = 1680 × 0.85 = ₹1,428. Profit = 1428 − 1200 = ₹228. Profit% = 228/1200 × 100 = 19%. Shortcut: net multiplier = 1.4 × 0.85 = 1.19, i.e., 19% profit directly.
