Numerical answer

A starts a business with Rs 45,000. B joins 3 months later with Rs 60,000, and C joins 6 months after the start with Rs 90,000. If the profit at the end of the year is Rs 27,000, what is C's share (in Rs)?
Show answer and solution

Answer: 9000

Profit is shared in the ratio of capital × time.

A: 45,000 × 12 = 5,40,000
B: 60,000 × 9 = 5,40,000
C: 90,000 × 6 = 5,40,000

The ratio is 1 : 1 : 1, so C gets 27,000/3 = 9,000.

Tip: work in thousands (45×12, 60×9, 90×6). All three products are 540, so the ratio is equal.
