Show answer and solution
Answer: (B) 17%
Marked price = 2000 × 1.30 = ₹2,600.
Selling price after a 10% discount = 2600 × 0.90 = ₹2,340.
Profit = 2340 − 2000 = ₹340. Profit% = 340/2000 × 100 = 17%.
Why not 20% (30 − 10)? A percentage discount applies to the marked price, not the cost price, so the two percentages don't simply subtract.
Shortcut: overall multiplier on CP = 1.30 × 0.90 = 1.17, so profit% = 17% directly.
Selling price after a 10% discount = 2600 × 0.90 = ₹2,340.
Profit = 2340 − 2000 = ₹340. Profit% = 340/2000 × 100 = 17%.
