CTET itself is not a job. It is a required qualification for teacher posts in central government schools. In the KVS/NVS recruitment run by CBSE (Notification 01/2025), a valid CTET certificate issued on or before the last date of application was essential for PRT (CTET Paper I) and for subject TGT posts (CTET Paper II). TGT Music, Art, Work Experience, Librarian and Physical Education did not need CTET, and PGT posts do not require it. Many state governments and some private/aided schools also accept CTET. Pay below is the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix shown in that notification; in-hand pay depends on city allowances and is not stated there.
| Post | Needs | Pay Level | Basic | Age Limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Primary Teacher (PRT) – KVS | CTET Paper I | Level 6 | Rs 35,400 (scale Rs 35,400–1,12,400) | Up to 30 years |
| Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) – KVS and NVS | CTET Paper II (subject TGTs) | Level 7 | Rs 44,900 (scale Rs 44,900–1,42,400) | Up to 35 years |
| Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) – for comparison | CTET not required | Level 8 | Rs 47,600 (scale Rs 47,600–1,51,100) | Up to 40 years |
