VoltRun Motors, an EV maker, produces and sells four models — E1, E2, E3 and E4 — during the four months January to April. The table below gives the number of units produced and the number of units sold for each model in each month. The opening inventory (units in stock) of each model on 1 January was: E1 = 50, E2 = 20, E3 = 15, E4 = 30.
For any model, Closing inventory at the end of a month = Opening inventory at the start of that month + Units produced that month − Units sold that month. The closing inventory of a month becomes the opening inventory of the next month. No model's inventory ever goes negative.
Units produced
| Model | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E1 | 500 | 520 | 480 | 540 |
| E2 | 300 | 320 | 340 | 300 |
| E3 | 200 | 180 | 220 | 240 |
| E4 | 400 | 420 | 410 | 430 |

Question 1
Single correct option
What is the closing inventory of model E1 at the end of April?
- A. 60
- B. 70
- C. 80
- D. 90
Show answer and solution
Answer: (C) 80
E1 inventory: end-Jan = 50+500−480 = 70; end-Feb = 70+520−500 = 90; end-Mar = 90+480−510 = 60; end-Apr = 60+540−520 = 80. So the closing inventory at the end of April is 80.
Question 2
Single correct option
In which month was VoltRun's total production (across all four models) the highest?
- A. January
- B. February
- C. March
- D. April
Show answer and solution
Answer: (D) April
Total production by month: Jan = 500+300+200+400 = 1400; Feb = 520+320+180+420 = 1440; Mar = 480+340+220+410 = 1450; Apr = 540+300+240+430 = 1510. April has the highest total production at 1510 units.
Question 3
Numerical answer
What is the closing inventory of model E3 at the end of February?
Show answer and solution
Answer: 5
E3 inventory: end-Jan = 15+200−190 = 25; end-Feb = 25+180−200 = 5. So the closing inventory of E3 at the end of February is 5 units.
Question 4
Single correct option
Which model has the lowest closing inventory at the end of April, among all four models?
- A. E1
- B. E2
- C. E3
- D. E4
Show answer and solution
Answer: (C) E3
Tracing each model's inventory to end-April: E1 = 80 (see earlier), E2: 20→30→40→50→30, so 30; E3: 15→25→5→15→25, so 25; E4: 30→40→60→50→40, so 40. The lowest is E3 at 25 units.
Question 5
Numerical answer
What is the percentage growth in production of model E3 from January to April?
Show answer and solution
Answer: 20
E3's production in January = 200 units, in April = 240 units. Percentage growth = (240−200)/200 × 100 = 40/200 × 100 = 20%.
Question 6
Single correct option
In which month did VoltRun's total sales (across all four models) first exceed its total production for that same month?
- A. January
- B. February
- C. March
- D. April
Show answer and solution
Answer: (C) March
Total sales by month: Jan = 480+290+190+390 = 1350 (< prod 1400); Feb = 500+310+200+400 = 1410 (< prod 1440); Mar = 510+330+210+420 = 1470 (> prod 1450, first time sales exceed production); Apr = 520+320+230+440 = 1510 (= prod 1510). So March is the first month total sales exceed total production.
