Numerical answer

Let L=lim⁡n→∞1n[(n+1)(n+2)⋯(2n)]1/nL=\displaystyle\lim_{n\to\infty}\frac1n\Big[(n+1)(n+2)\cdots(2n)\Big]^{1/n}. The value of e Le\,L is

Answer: 4

Take the logarithm of the expression. We get ln⁡L=lim⁡n→∞1n∑k=1nln⁡n+kn\ln L=\lim_{n\to\infty}\frac1n\sum_{k=1}^{n}\ln\frac{n+k}{n}, because dividing each of the nn factors by nn accounts for the outer 1n\frac1n inside the nn-th root. This is a Riemann sum for ∫01ln⁡(1+x) dx\int_0^1\ln(1+x)\,dx. Integrating by parts gives ∫01ln⁡(1+x)dx=[(1+x)ln⁡(1+x)−(1+x)]01=(2ln⁡2−2)−(0−1)=2ln⁡2−1\int_0^1\ln(1+x)dx=\big[(1+x)\ln(1+x)-(1+x)\big]_0^1=(2\ln2-2)-(0-1)=2\ln2-1. Therefore ln⁡L=2ln⁡2−1\ln L=2\ln2-1, so L=4/eL=4/e and eL=4eL=4. Evaluating the expression numerically with n=4000n=4000 gives 1.471651.47165, matching 4/e=1.471524/e=1.47152 to four digits.
