  1. A. 8.778.77
  2. B. 8.888.88
  3. C. 9.259.25
  4. D. 9.609.60

Answer: (B) 8.888.88

Moles: NH3=20\mathrm{NH_3}=20 mmol, HCl=15\mathrm{HCl}=15 mmol, giving NH3=5\mathrm{NH_3}=5 mmol and NH4+=15\mathrm{NH_4^+}=15 mmol (a basic buffer). Adding 11 mmol OH−\mathrm{OH^-} converts 11 mmol NH4+\mathrm{NH_4^+} to NH3\mathrm{NH_3}: NH3=6\mathrm{NH_3}=6, NH4+=14\mathrm{NH_4^+}=14 mmol. pOH=pKb+log⁡[NH4+][NH3]=4.75+log⁡146=5.118pOH=pK_b+\log\dfrac{[\mathrm{NH_4^+}]}{[\mathrm{NH_3}]}=4.75+\log\dfrac{14}{6}=5.118, so pH =14−5.118=8.88=14-5.118=8.88. Volume cancels in the ratio. The value 8.778.77 is the buffer before NaOH is added.
