S-block compounds is correct?

Single correct option

Which one of the following statements about s-block compounds is correct?
  1. A. The solubility of hydroxides of alkaline earth metals decreases from Be(OH)2\mathrm{Be(OH)_2} to Ba(OH)2\mathrm{Ba(OH)_2}
  2. B. LiHCO3\mathrm{LiHCO_3} can be isolated as a stable solid
  3. C. All alkali metal nitrates decompose on heating to nitrites and oxygen
  4. D. Be(OH)2\mathrm{Be(OH)_2} dissolves in excess NaOH to form [Be(OH)4]2−\mathrm{[Be(OH)_4]^{2-}}
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) Be(OH)2\mathrm{Be(OH)_2} dissolves in excess NaOH to form [Be(OH)4]2−\mathrm{[Be(OH)_4]^{2-}}

Beryllium hydroxide is amphoteric: with excess alkali it forms the beryllate ion [Be(OH)4]2−\mathrm{[Be(OH)_4]^{2-}}, so the first statement is correct. Solubility of alkaline earth hydroxides increases down the group (Ba(OH)2\mathrm{Ba(OH)_2} is far more soluble than Be(OH)2\mathrm{Be(OH)_2}). Lithium bicarbonate exists only in solution, unlike NaHCO3\mathrm{NaHCO_3}. LiNO3\mathrm{LiNO_3} decomposes to Li2O\mathrm{Li_2O}, NO2\mathrm{NO_2} and O2\mathrm{O_2} rather than the nitrite.
