How to Apply for NDA 2027: Form, Fee & Documents

Last verified 29 Oct 2026 · Official website: upsc.gov.in

Step-by-step form filling, documents, photo and signature rules, fee and common mistakes.

  1. Complete UPSC One Time Registration (OTR)Go to upsconline.nic.in and create your OTR profile once, with your name, parents' names, date of birth (as in Class 10), email and mobile number. Both are verified by OTP. The same OTR ID works for all future UPSC exams.
  2. Open the NDA & NA applicationLog in with your OTR ID or email/mobile and password, and open the NDA & NA (I) or (II) form from the active exams list while the window is open.
  3. Fill personal and education detailsEnter your details exactly as in your Class 10 and Class 12 records. Choose the wings you want in order of preference (Army, Navy, Air Force, Naval Academy). Navy, Air Force and Naval Academy need Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12.
  4. Pay the feePay Rs 100 by debit/credit card, UPI or net banking. Exempt candidates skip this step.
  5. Upload photo, signature and IDUpload a recent photograph and signature, and capture a live photo when the form asks. Give the details of one photo ID; UPSC recommends Aadhaar. You will carry the same ID to the exam.
  6. Choose exam centrePick your exam centre early. Centres fill on a first-apply, first-allot basis, and a full centre is closed to new applicants.
  7. Check and submitUse the preview, check every field, accept the declaration and submit before 6 pm on the last date. Download and keep the confirmation page.
  8. After the examIf you clear the written test, register on joinindianarmy.nic.in within the time UPSC gives (usually about two weeks after the result) to get your SSB date.

Documents to keep ready

  • Class 10 certificate (proof of date of birth)
  • Class 12 marksheet, or admit card if you are still appearing
  • Recent photograph and scanned signature
  • Photo ID (Aadhaar recommended; PAN, passport, driving licence or voter ID also used)
  • Working email ID and mobile number
  • Card, UPI or net banking for the fee (if not exempt)
  • Certificate from the Military/Sainik School principal (only for JCO/NCO/OR wards claiming fee exemption)

Photo and signature

SignatureYour own signature in black ink on white paper, scanned as JPG, about 20 KB to 300 KB.
Photo IDDetails of one valid photo ID; Aadhaar recommended. Bring the same original ID to the exam centre.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Entering a date of birth that does not match your Class 10 certificate.
  • Choosing Navy, Air Force or Naval Academy without Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12.
  • Waiting till the last day; the portal slows down and good centres fill up.
  • Uploading an old, blurred or wrongly sized photo.
  • Assuming you can fix mistakes later; UPSC does not allow changes or withdrawal once the form is submitted and the window closes.
  • Forgetting to register on joinindianarmy.nic.in after the written result, which means no SSB date.
