The distance of the plane 2x-3y+6z=14 from the origin is

Single correct option

The distance of the plane 2x−3y+6z=142x-3y+6z=14 from the origin is
  1. A. 1414
  2. B. 77
  3. C. 12\dfrac12
  4. D. 22
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 22

Distance =∣−14∣22+(−3)2+62=147=2=\frac{|{-14}|}{\sqrt{2^2+(-3)^2+6^2}}=\frac{14}{7}=2. Writing the equation in the normal form 27x−37y+67z=2\frac27x-\frac37y+\frac67z=2 gives the same. The value 1414 forgets to divide by 49\sqrt{49}, 77 is the denominator alone, and 12\frac12 inverts the quotient.
