The least value of 2x+8/x for x>0 is

Single correct option

The least value of 2x+8x2x+\dfrac8x for x>0x>0 is
  1. A. 44
  2. B. 88
  3. C. 1010
  4. D. 1616
Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 88

f′(x)=2−8x2=0f'(x)=2-\frac8{x^2}=0 gives x=2x=2 and f′′>0f''>0 there, so the minimum is f(2)=4+4=8f(2)=4+4=8. (AM-GM gives the same: 2x+8x≥216=82x+\frac8x\ge2\sqrt{16}=8.) Putting x=1x=1 gives 1010, which is not the minimum.
