Isotopes of an element differ in the number of

Single correct option

Isotopes of an element differ in the number of
  1. A. neutrons
  2. B. protons
  3. C. electrons
  4. D. electrons in the valence shell
Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) neutrons

Isotopes have the same atomic number, i.e. the same protons and electrons, and hence the same chemical properties. They differ in neutron count and therefore in mass number. For example, carbon-12 and carbon-14 both have 6 protons but 6 and 8 neutrons.
