The slope of the tangent to the curve y=ln (tan x) at the point where x=(π)/(4) is

Single correct option

The slope of the tangent to the curve y=ln⁡(tan⁡x)y=\ln(\tan x) at the point where x=π4x=\dfrac\pi4 is
  1. A. 11
  2. B. 12\dfrac12
  3. C. 2\sqrt2
  4. D. 22
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 22

y′=sec⁡2xtan⁡x=1sin⁡xcos⁡x=2sin⁡2xy'=\frac{\sec^2x}{\tan x}=\frac{1}{\sin x\cos x}=\frac{2}{\sin2x}. At x=π4x=\frac\pi4, sin⁡π2=1\sin\frac\pi2=1, so y′=2y'=2. The value 11 is the value of tan⁡π4\tan\frac\pi4, 12\frac12 comes from inverting, and 2\sqrt2 is sec⁡π4\sec\frac\pi4 left unsimplified.
