If y=sin (ln x) for x>0, then xdy/dx at x=e^π/3 is

Single correct option

If y=sin⁡(ln⁡x)y=\sin(\ln x) for x>0x>0, then xdydxx\dfrac{dy}{dx} at x=eπ/3x=e^{\pi/3} is
  1. A. 32\frac{\sqrt3}{2}
  2. B. 12eπ/3\frac{1}{2e^{\pi/3}}
  3. C. π3\frac{\pi}{3}
  4. D. 12\frac12
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 12\frac12

By the chain rule dydx=cos⁡(ln⁡x)⋅1x\frac{dy}{dx}=\cos(\ln x)\cdot\frac1x, so xdydx=cos⁡(ln⁡x)x\frac{dy}{dx}=\cos(\ln x). At x=eπ/3x=e^{\pi/3}, ln⁡x=π3\ln x=\frac\pi3 and cos⁡π3=12\cos\frac\pi3=\frac12. Trap: 32\frac{\sqrt3}{2} is sin⁡π3\sin\frac\pi3 (the value of yy), and 12eπ/3\frac{1}{2e^{\pi/3}} is dydx\frac{dy}{dx} itself, not xdydxx\frac{dy}{dx}.
