If xdy/dx+2y=x^2 for x>0 and y(1)=1, then y(2) is equal to

Single correct option

If xdydx+2y=x2x\dfrac{dy}{dx}+2y=x^2 for x>0x>0 and y(1)=1y(1)=1, then y(2)y(2) is equal to
  1. A. 54\dfrac54
  2. B. 1916\dfrac{19}{16}
  3. C. 32\dfrac32
  4. D. 1716\dfrac{17}{16}
Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 1916\dfrac{19}{16}

The equation is dydx+2xy=x\dfrac{dy}{dx}+\dfrac2xy=x with integrating factor x2x^2, so ddx(x2y)=x3\dfrac{d}{dx}(x^2y)=x^3 and x2y=x44+Cx^2y=\dfrac{x^4}4+C. Using y(1)=1y(1)=1 gives C=34C=\dfrac34. At x=2x=2: 4y=4+344y=4+\dfrac34, i.e. y=1916y=\dfrac{19}{16}.
