∫√(x) ln x dx is equal to

Single correct option

∫x ln⁡x dx\displaystyle\int\sqrt{x}\,\ln x\,dx is equal to
  1. A. 23x3/2ln⁡x−23x3/2+C\frac23x^{3/2}\ln x-\frac23x^{3/2}+C
  2. B. 23x3/2ln⁡x+49x3/2+C\frac23x^{3/2}\ln x+\frac49x^{3/2}+C
  3. C. 32x3/2ln⁡x−94x3/2+C\frac32x^{3/2}\ln x-\frac94x^{3/2}+C
  4. D. 23x3/2ln⁡x−49x3/2+C\frac23x^{3/2}\ln x-\frac49x^{3/2}+C
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 23x3/2ln⁡x−49x3/2+C\frac23x^{3/2}\ln x-\frac49x^{3/2}+C

By parts with u=ln⁡x, dv=x1/2dxu=\ln x,\ dv=x^{1/2}dx: 23x3/2ln⁡x−∫23x3/2⋅1x dx=23x3/2ln⁡x−23⋅23x3/2\frac23x^{3/2}\ln x-\int\frac23x^{3/2}\cdot\frac1x\,dx=\frac23x^{3/2}\ln x-\frac23\cdot\frac23x^{3/2}, i.e. the second term is 49x3/2\frac49x^{3/2}, not 23\frac23. Differentiating the answer returns xln⁡x\sqrt x\ln x. The other options slip on the sign or the reciprocal of 32\frac32.
