Single correct option

If A=(2−130)A=\begin{pmatrix}2&-1\\3&0\end{pmatrix}, the sum of all the entries of A2A^2 is
  1. A. 44
  2. B. −2-2
  3. C. 1414
  4. D. 22
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 22

A2=(4−3−2+06+0−3+0)=(1−26−3)A^2=\begin{pmatrix}4-3&-2+0\\6+0&-3+0\end{pmatrix}=\begin{pmatrix}1&-2\\6&-3\end{pmatrix}, and the sum of its entries is 1−2+6−3=21-2+6-3=2. Squaring each entry of AA instead gives (4190)\begin{pmatrix}4&1\\9&0\end{pmatrix} with sum 1414, which is the classic mistake.
