Robert Clive defeated Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah at Plassey in 1757, helped by the treachery of Mir Jafar. The Battle of Buxar in 1764 later confirmed British supremacy over Bengal, Bihar and Odisha. The year 1761 is the Third Battle of Panipat and 1857 is the Great Revolt, which are common confusions.
