Single correct option

If the roots of x2−5x+k=0x^2-5x+k=0 are in the ratio 2:32:3, then kk is equal to
  1. A. 55
  2. B. 1010
  3. C. 1515
  4. D. 66
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 66

Let the roots be 2m2m and 3m3m. The sum is 5m=55m=5, so m=1m=1 and the roots are 22 and 33. The product of roots is k=2×3=6k=2\times3=6. Using k=5k=5 comes from reading the sum as the product, and 15 comes from multiplying the wrong pair.
