The slope of the line 2x+3y=6 is 2/3. 2. The x-intercept of the line 2x+3y=6 is 2.

Single correct option

Consider the following statements:
1. The slope of the line 2x+3y=62x+3y=6 is 23\dfrac23.
2. The x-intercept of the line 2x+3y=62x+3y=6 is 22.
Which of the statements is/are correct?
  1. A. 1 only
  2. B. 2 only
  3. C. Both 1 and 2
  4. D. Neither 1 nor 2
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) Neither 1 nor 2

Writing y=−23x+2y=-\dfrac23x+2 shows that the slope is −23-\dfrac23, not 23\dfrac23, so statement 1 is false; the sign is the whole trap. Putting y=0y=0 gives 2x=62x=6, so the x-intercept is 33, and 22 is the y-intercept (put x=0x=0: 3y=63y=6). Statement 2 is therefore false as well, since it confuses the two intercepts. Neither statement is correct.
