Single correct option

The number of solutions of sin⁡x+cos⁡x=1\sin x+\cos x=1 in the interval [0,2π)[0,2\pi) is
  1. A. 22
  2. B. 11
  3. C. 33
  4. D. 44
Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 22

Rewrite as 2sin⁡(x+π4)=1\sqrt2\sin\left(x+\dfrac\pi4\right)=1, so sin⁡(x+π4)=12\sin\left(x+\dfrac\pi4\right)=\dfrac1{\sqrt2}. Then x+π4=π4x+\dfrac\pi4=\dfrac\pi4 or 3π4\dfrac{3\pi}4, giving x=0x=0 and x=π2x=\dfrac\pi2. Squaring the equation would introduce an extra root x=πx=\pi, which fails the original equation.
