Show answer and solution
Answer: (A) 1 only
Only statement 1 is correct. Under Article 64 the Vice-President is the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. As Chairman, however, he has no vote in the first instance and may exercise only a casting vote when the House is evenly divided. Statement 2 therefore confuses an ordinary vote with a casting vote.
