Single correct option

The solution of dydx+ytan⁡x=sec⁡x\dfrac{dy}{dx}+y\tan x=\sec x with y(0)=2y(0)=2 gives y ⁣(π4)=y\!\left(\dfrac{\pi}{4}\right)=
  1. A. 32\dfrac{3}{\sqrt2}
  2. B. 12\dfrac{1}{\sqrt2}
  3. C. 323\sqrt2
  4. D. 32\dfrac32
Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 32\dfrac{3}{\sqrt2}

The integrating factor is e∫tan⁡x dx=sec⁡xe^{\int\tan x\,dx}=\sec x. Then ddx(ysec⁡x)=sec⁡2x\dfrac{d}{dx}(y\sec x)=\sec^2x, so ysec⁡x=tan⁡x+Cy\sec x=\tan x+C, i.e. y=sin⁡x+Ccos⁡xy=\sin x+C\cos x. From y(0)=2y(0)=2 we get C=2C=2. Therefore y(π/4)=12+22=32y(\pi/4)=\dfrac{1}{\sqrt2}+\dfrac{2}{\sqrt2}=\dfrac{3}{\sqrt2}.
