- B. 2 only
- C. Both 1 and 2
- D. Neither 1 nor 2
Show answer and solution
Answer: (D) Neither 1 nor 2
Both statements are wrong. The Cabinet Mission of 1946 consisted of Pethick-Lawrence, Stafford Cripps and A. V. Alexander, and it rejected the demand for a separate sovereign Pakistan, proposing instead a loose union with three groups of provinces and a Constituent Assembly. Lord Mountbatten arrived as Viceroy only in March 1947 and was linked to the Partition plan of 3 June 1947.
