Mahatma Gandhi's first major satyagraha in India, in 1917, was launched to support the farmers of
- A. Kheda in Gujarat
- B. Bardoli in Gujarat
- C. Mopla in Malabar

Show answer and solution
Answer: (D) Champaran in Bihar
At the request of Rajkumar Shukla, Gandhi went to Champaran in Bihar in 1917 to help peasants forced by European planters to grow indigo on part of their land under the tinkathia system. The inquiry led to relief for the farmers. Kheda (1918) was about revenue remission after crop failure, and Bardoli was in 1928. The Mopla revolt of 1921 was not a Gandhian satyagraha.
