1. Arteries always carry oxygenated blood.
2. The pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
  1. A. 1 only
  2. B. 2 only
  3. C. Both 1 and 2
  4. D. Neither 1 nor 2
Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 2 only

Arteries carry blood away from the heart, which is usually oxygenated, but the pulmonary artery takes deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs. So statement 1 is false because of this exception. Likewise, the pulmonary vein carries oxygenated blood to the heart.
