Which hormone lowers the blood glucose level in the human body?

Insulin, secreted by the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, helps cells take up glucose and stores it as glycogen, lowering blood sugar. Glucagon does the opposite. Its deficiency causes diabetes mellitus. Adrenaline and thyroxine have other main roles.
