Single correct option
Consider the following statements:
1. The magnetic field inside a long current-carrying solenoid is nearly uniform.
2. Magnetic field lines of a bar magnet form closed loops, passing from the south pole to the north pole inside the magnet.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
1. The magnetic field inside a long current-carrying solenoid is nearly uniform.
2. Magnetic field lines of a bar magnet form closed loops, passing from the south pole to the north pole inside the magnet.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
- A. 1 only
- B. 2 only
- C. Both 1 and 2
- D. Neither 1 nor 2
Show answer and solution
Answer: (C) Both 1 and 2
Both statements are correct. Away from the ends, a long solenoid has an almost uniform axial field inside it. Magnetic field lines have no beginning or end; outside the magnet they go from north to south, and inside the magnet they continue from south to north, completing closed loops. This is the key difference from electric field lines, which start on positive charges.
