Show answer and solution
Answer: (C) Both 1 and 2
Both statements are correct. Sepoys at Meerut rose on 10 May 1857, killed British officers and marched to Delhi, where they proclaimed the aged Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar as Emperor of Hindustan. The Mughal name gave the revolt a unifying symbol. Later he was captured, tried and exiled to Rangoon. Choosing only one statement overlooks either the start or the symbol.
