Single correct option

A ball dropped from a height of 1212 m rebounds each time to 23\dfrac23 of the height from which it fell. The total distance it travels before coming to rest is
  1. A. 3636 m
  2. B. 4848 m
  3. C. 6060 m
  4. D. 7272 m
Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 6060 m

Downward distances: 12+8+163+⋯12+8+\tfrac{16}3+\cdots, infinite GP with r=23r=\tfrac23, sum =121/3=36=\dfrac{12}{1/3}=36. The upward distances are 36−12=2436-12=24. Total =36+24=60=36+24=60 m; stopping at 36 forgets the upward legs.
