Single correct option

In a geometric progression of positive terms, the third term is 1212 and the sixth term is 9696. The eighth term is
  1. A. 192192
  2. B. 256256
  3. C. 768768
  4. D. 384384
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 384384

Dividing, r3=96/12=8r^3=96/12=8, so r=2r=2 and a=12/r2=3a=12/r^2=3. The eighth term is ar7=3×128=384ar^7=3\times128=384. Writing ar8ar^8 gives 768, and starting from the sixth term but multiplying by only rr once gives 192.
