Single correct option

Let AA be the set of multiples of 33 and BB the set of multiples of 55 among the integers 1,2,…,501,2,\ldots,50. Then n(A∪B)n(A\cup B) is
  1. A. 2626
  2. B. 2323
  3. C. 2929
  4. D. 1313
Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 2323

n(A)=⌊50/3⌋=16n(A)=\lfloor50/3\rfloor=16, n(B)=10n(B)=10, and A∩BA\cap B consists of multiples of 1515: 15,30,4515,30,45, so n(A∩B)=3n(A\cap B)=3. Hence n(A∪B)=16+10−3=23n(A\cup B)=16+10-3=23. Without removing the multiples of 15 you would get 26.
