Single correct option

Consider: (I) Self-reduction of copper sulphide ore in a Bessemer converter gives blister copper. (II) Zone refining is used to obtain ultrapure Ge and Si. (III) In the van Arkel method crude Ti or Zr is converted to a volatile iodide which decomposes on a hot tungsten filament. (IV) In the Mond process nickel carbonyl is formed at 450450-470 K470\ \mathrm{K} and decomposed at 330330-350 K350\ \mathrm{K}. The number of correct statements is
  1. A. 33
  2. B. 44
  3. C. 22
  4. D. 11
Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 33

(I), (II) and (III) are correct. In (IV) the temperatures are interchanged: Ni+4CO→Ni(CO)4\mathrm{Ni+4CO\to Ni(CO)_4} occurs at the lower temperature (330330-350 K350\ \mathrm{K}) and the carbonyl decomposes to pure nickel at the higher temperature (450450-470 K470\ \mathrm{K}). So three statements are correct.
