Let A=beginbmatrix1&2\\0&1endbmatrix and P=A+A^2+…+A^10. The sum of all entries of P is

Single correct option

Let A=[1201]A=\begin{bmatrix}1&2\\0&1\end{bmatrix} and P=A+A2+⋯+A10P=A+A^2+\cdots+A^{10}. The sum of all entries of PP is
  1. A. 110110
  2. B. 120120
  3. C. 140140
  4. D. 130130
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) 130130

By induction Ak=[12k01]A^k=\begin{bmatrix}1&2k\\0&1\end{bmatrix}. Adding for k=1,…,10k=1,\dots,10 gives P=[102⋅55010]=[10110010]P=\begin{bmatrix}10&2\cdot55\\0&10\end{bmatrix}=\begin{bmatrix}10&110\\0&10\end{bmatrix} because ∑k=55\sum k=55. The sum of entries is 10+110+0+10=13010+110+0+10=130.
