The vertex of the parabola y=x^2-6x+11 is

Single correct option

The vertex of the parabola y=x2−6x+11y=x^2-6x+11 is
  1. A. (−3,2)(-3,2)
  2. B. (3,11)(3,11)
  3. C. (6,11)(6,11)
  4. D. (3,2)(3,2)
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) (3,2)(3,2)

Complete the square: y=(x−3)2+2y=(x-3)^2+2, so the vertex is (3,2)(3,2). Alternatively the vertex has x=−b2a=3x=-\frac{b}{2a}=3 and y=9−18+11=2y=9-18+11=2. Trap: (−3,2)(-3,2) takes the sign of x−3x-3 literally, (3,11)(3,11) reads the constant term as the ordinate, and (6,11)(6,11) ignores the completion of the square entirely.
