  1. A. 44
  2. B. 88
  3. C. 1616
  4. D. 22
Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 88

We need f(0)=lim⁡x→01−cos⁡4xx2=lim⁡2sin⁡22xx2=2⋅22=8f(0)=\lim_{x\to0}\frac{1-\cos4x}{x^2}=\lim\frac{2\sin^22x}{x^2}=2\cdot2^2=8. Equivalently 12(4)2=8\frac12(4)^2=8 using 1−cos⁡kx∼k2x221-\cos kx\sim\frac{k^2x^2}{2}. Using 1−cos⁡xx2→12\frac{1-\cos x}{x^2}\to\frac12 without scaling by k2k^2 would give 12\frac12, and 1616 forgets the factor 12\frac12.
