Lim x→π/4(sin x-cos x)/(x-fracπ4) is equal to

Single correct option

lim⁡x→π/4sin⁡x−cos⁡xx−π4\displaystyle\lim_{x\to\pi/4}\frac{\sin x-\cos x}{x-\frac\pi4} is equal to
  1. A. 11
  2. B. 2\sqrt2
  3. C. 00
  4. D. 12\frac{1}{\sqrt2}
Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 2\sqrt2

At x=π4x=\frac\pi4 the numerator is 00, so the limit is the derivative of sin⁡x−cos⁡x\sin x-\cos x at π4\frac\pi4, namely cos⁡x+sin⁡x=12+12=2\cos x+\sin x=\frac{1}{\sqrt2}+\frac1{\sqrt2}=\sqrt2. L'Hospital's rule gives the same. The value 12\frac1{\sqrt2} keeps only one of the two terms.
