Single correct option
Which one of the following quantities remains constant for a body moving in a circle with uniform speed?
- A. Speed
- B. Velocity
- C. Acceleration
- D. Linear momentum
Show answer and solution
Answer: (A) Speed
Velocity is a vector and its direction changes continuously, so velocity, momentum and acceleration (always directed to the centre) change in direction even though their magnitudes may stay constant. Only the speed, which is a scalar, is truly constant. This is the usual trap with magnitudes versus vectors.
