Single correct option

The mass of an astronaut on the Earth is 60 kg. On the Moon, where g is one-sixth of that on the Earth (take g = 10 m/s^2 on the Earth), the astronaut's mass and weight are respectively
  1. A. 10 kg and 100 N
  2. B. 60 kg and 100 N
  3. C. 60 kg and 600 N
  4. D. 10 kg and 600 N
Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 60 kg and 100 N

Mass is the quantity of matter and does not change with place, so it stays 60 kg. Weight = m g = 60 x (10/6) = 100 N. Weight on the Earth would be 600 N, so the Moon value is one-sixth of this.
