Which one of the following diseases is caused by a protozoan?
- A. Tuberculosis
- B. Malaria
- C. Typhoid
- D. Cholera
Show answer and solution
Answer: (B) Malaria
Malaria is caused by Plasmodium, a protozoan carried by the female Anopheles mosquito. Tuberculosis, typhoid and cholera are bacterial diseases, caused by Mycobacterium, Salmonella and Vibrio respectively. Antibiotics are effective against the latter group but not against the malaria parasite, which needs antimalarial drugs.
