Single correct option
Which vitamin is synthesised in the human skin on exposure to sunlight?
- A. Vitamin A
- B. Vitamin C
- C. Vitamin D
- D. Vitamin E
Show answer and solution
Answer: (C) Vitamin D
Ultraviolet-B rays convert a cholesterol derivative in the skin into cholecalciferol, which is then changed into the active form of vitamin D. For this reason it is called the sunshine vitamin. Vitamins A, C and E must be obtained from food, and deficiency of vitamin D leads to rickets in children.
