The equation of the line passing through (-1,4) and parallel to the line joining (2,5) and (6,13) is

Single correct option

The equation of the line passing through (−1,4)(-1,4) and parallel to the line joining (2,5)(2,5) and (6,13)(6,13) is
  1. A. 2x−y+6=02x-y+6=0
  2. B. x+2y−7=0x+2y-7=0
  3. C. 2x−y−6=02x-y-6=0
  4. D. 2x−y+2=02x-y+2=0
Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 2x−y+6=02x-y+6=0

The slope of the joining line is 13−56−2=2\frac{13-5}{6-2}=2, so the required line is y−4=2(x+1)y-4=2(x+1), i.e. 2x−y+6=02x-y+6=0; check: −2−4+6=0-2-4+6=0. Trap: x+2y−7=0x+2y-7=0 is the line through the point perpendicular to the joining line (slope −12-\frac12), and 2x−y−6=02x-y-6=0 comes from a sign error in x+1x+1.
