Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 1532\dfrac{15}{32}

First find dydx=dy/dtdx/dt=3t2−32t=32(t−1t)\dfrac{dy}{dx}=\dfrac{dy/dt}{dx/dt}=\dfrac{3t^2-3}{2t}=\dfrac32\left(t-\dfrac1t\right). Differentiate this with respect to xx by the chain rule: d2ydx2=ddt(dydx)/dxdt=32(1+1t2)⋅12t=3(t2+1)4t3\dfrac{d^2y}{dx^2}=\dfrac{d}{dt}\left(\dfrac{dy}{dx}\right)\Big/\dfrac{dx}{dt}=\dfrac32\left(1+\dfrac1{t^2}\right)\cdot\dfrac1{2t}=\dfrac{3(t^2+1)}{4t^3}. At t=2t=2 this is 3⋅54⋅8=1532\dfrac{3\cdot5}{4\cdot8}=\dfrac{15}{32}. The usual error is to omit the final division by dx/dtdx/dt, i.e. to differentiate with respect to tt only. A quick numerical check: at t=2t=2 we have dydx=32(2−12)=94\dfrac{dy}{dx}=\dfrac32\left(2-\dfrac12\right)=\dfrac94, and the slope increases with tt, consistent with a positive second derivative. Using the formula 3(t2+1)4t3\dfrac{3(t^2+1)}{4t^3} at t=1t=1 gives 32\dfrac32, matching direct differentiation of the parametric forms.
