- B. 2 only

Show answer and solution
Answer: (A) 1 only
A fuse is placed in series so that the whole current of the circuit passes through it. Its wire is of an alloy of tin and lead with a low melting point, so excess current heats it, melts it and breaks the circuit. Statement 1 is correct and statement 2 is wrong, since a high melting point would defeat its purpose.
