Answer: (D) 3 A

Equivalent resistance = (6 x 3)/(6 + 3) = 2 ohm. Current = V/R = 6/2 = 3 A. Individually the branches carry 1 A and 2 A, so 1 A or 2 A is only a branch current. The total is the sum of branch currents, 3 A.
