The acute angle between the lines y=√3 x+1 and y=(x)/(√3)-2 is

Single correct option

The acute angle between the lines y=3 x+1y=\sqrt3\,x+1 and y=x3−2y=\dfrac{x}{\sqrt3}-2 is
  1. A. 30∘30^\circ
  2. B. 45∘45^\circ
  3. C. 60∘60^\circ
  4. D. 15∘15^\circ
Show answer and solution

Answer: (A) 30∘30^\circ

The slopes are m1=3m_1=\sqrt3 and m2=1/3m_2=1/\sqrt3. tan⁡θ=∣m1−m21+m1m2∣=2/32=13\tan\theta=\left|\dfrac{m_1-m_2}{1+m_1m_2}\right|=\dfrac{2/\sqrt3}{2}=\dfrac1{\sqrt3}, so θ=30∘\theta=30^\circ. The lines make 60∘60^\circ and 30∘30^\circ with the x-axis, so the angle between them is their difference.
