The distance between the parallel lines 3x+4y-10=0 and 6x+8y+5=0 is

Single correct option

The distance between the parallel lines 3x+4y−10=03x+4y-10=0 and 6x+8y+5=06x+8y+5=0 is
  1. A. 33
  2. B. 11
  3. C. 52\frac52
  4. D. 55
Show answer and solution

Answer: (C) 52\frac52

Rewrite the second line as 3x+4y+52=03x+4y+\frac52=0 so that both have the same coefficients. Then d=∣−10−52∣5=52d=\frac{|-10-\frac52|}{5}=\frac52. Applying the formula to −10-10 and +5+5 without halving gives 155=3\frac{15}{5}=3, which is the trap.
