The area of the triangle formed by the lines y=x, y=2x and x=3 is

Single correct option

The area of the triangle formed by the lines y=x, y=2xy=x,\ y=2x and x=3x=3 is
  1. A. 99 square units
  2. B. 92\frac92 square units
  3. C. 33 square units
  4. D. 66 square units
Show answer and solution

Answer: (B) 92\frac92 square units

The vertices are (0,0), (3,3)(0,0),\ (3,3) and (3,6)(3,6). The side on x=3x=3 has length 33 and the perpendicular distance of the origin from it is 33, so the area is 12×3×3=92\frac12\times3\times3=\frac92. The value 99 forgets the factor 12\frac12.
